<\/a><\/dt>\nFor a city of only about 32,000 residents, Juneau, Aklaska<\/a>\u00a0offers too many\u00a0things to go, see, do\u00a0during the average cruise ship stop of 6 to 10 hours.<\/span> Although Juneau\u00a0was founded in the 1880s with the discovery of gold, \u00a0gold mining has pretty much petered out.\u00a0\u00a0Today, however, the capital city (my summer home)\u00a0offers visitors and residents\u00a0many entertainment and recreational riches. Whether one seeks:<\/span><\/p>\n there is something in Juneau\u00a0for just about everyone.\u00a02015 will be my third summer in Juneau, and I plan on checking off many new adventures from my bucket list, but not likely I will see and do all that the Juneau area offers. After all, I do have a job and I do have to sleep. <\/span><\/p>\n I have\u00a0flown over the \u00a0Juneau Ice Field<\/a>\u00a0 and hiked the high\u00a0grandeur of the Mendenhall Glacier<\/a>, complements of Northstar Trekking<\/a>. AMAZING! As was the salmon fishing in Auke Bay and the salmon ladder at the DIPAC Salmon Hatchery.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n I have\u00a0lead\u00a0 mountain trail hikes<\/a> as a naturalist guide for Gastineau Guiding<\/a>, explored neighboring islands, strolled among the “flower towers” at<\/span> Glacier <\/a>Gardens<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0revelled in the spray\u00a0of Nugget Creek Falls at the<\/span> Mendenhall\u00a0Recreation\u00a0Area<\/a>. I have shot the rapids of the Mendenhall River, but I have to admit the Mendenhall River is pretty tame, but non-the-less an enjoyable float through the Tongass National Forest<\/span>. Alaska Adventure Tours<\/a> offers the best float trips on the Mendenhall River. Of course, as far as I am concerned,\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0Gastineau Guiding<\/a>\u00a0offers visitors\u00a0premier\u00a0hiking, whale watching and photo safari\u00a0excursions.<\/span><\/p>\n I have\u00a0also patronized\u00a0about\u00a0every eatery in downtown Juneau and taste-tested a variety of\u00a0locally brewed\u00a0beers during tours of the<\/span> Alaskan Brewery<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0One of my favorite things to do is ride<\/span> the tram<\/a> to the top of Mt. Roberts and eat on the outside deck of the Timberline Bar & Grill<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0But rather than spending any more time telling you why I have a love affair with Juneau, check out\u00a0the video below produced by<\/span>\u00a0 Travel\u00a0 Juneau<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0the\u00a0Juneau Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. <\/span><\/p>\n You may not fall in love with Juneau, but one can’t help but\u00a0appreciate its vibrancy and\u00a0splendor.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n\n
